NCAA Second Round
Postgame Notes
- Indiana went on a 12-2 run following tie at 50-50 at the 8:04 mark.
- IU held UK scoreless the final 4:41 of the first half, and the Wildcats' first basket of the second half didn't come until the 17:42 mark on a 3-pointer by Jamal Murray. UK then made their next three shots before going on another cold spell of 1-for-8.
- Indiana improves to 27-7 overall and advances to the Sweet 16 for the 22nd time in school history. In 39 NCAA Tournament appearances, the Hoosiers are now 66-33 overall … IU pulls closer in the all-time series with Kentucky, as the Wildcats hold a 32-25 advantage. This was the Hoosiers' second win over UK in five NCAA Tournament meetings, with the only other victory coming March 17, 1973 … Indiana last made the Sweet 16 in 2013.
- Head Coach Tom Crean improves his career record to 338-214 in 17 seasons, including a 148-118 mark at IU in eight years. He is now 120-52 in the last five seasons, and moves his NCAA Tournament record to 6-3 with the Hoosiers and 11-8 overall in his career.
- The Hoosiers finished 6-for-21 (28.6 percent) from 3-point range, with four of those treys coming from off the bench, including all three in the first half. IU finished well below its season average of 41.9 percent, which was fifth nationally entering the game … With the six threes in the contest, IU extends its school record total to 332 for the season … IU has made a 3-pointer in every game since February 25, 2010 against Wisconsin.
- Indiana's bench out-scored UK 18-7 in the game, including a 15-7 advantage in the first half.
- IU shot 25-for-52 (48.1 percent) in the game, marking the 29th game this season where the Hoosiers shot 45 percent or better from the field. They are 2-3 this season when failing to reach that magic percentage. The Hoosiers entered the game shooting 50.5 percent for the season, which ranked second nationally.
- With a three-pointer at the 14:07 mark of the first half, Robert Johnson drilled his 50th 3-pointer of the season, joining Yogi Ferrell and Nick Zeisloft as Hoosiers with 50+ treys this season.
- Freshman Thomas Bryant scored a team-high 19 points on 6-for-8 shooting. After a 5-for-7 effort against Chattanooga, he is shooting 73.3 percent (11-for-15) in the NCAA Tournament
- He is now shooting 68.9 percent from the field this season, which leads the Big Ten and would crush the previous best by an IU freshman (Cody Zeller, 62.3 percent, 2011-12)
- He now has 24 double figure scoring games this season.
- Yogi Ferrell narrowly missed leading the Hoosiers in points, rebounds and assists. His 18 points mark the eighth straight game he's scored in double figures, with 31 double-figure scoring games this season. With four assists, he extends his career mark to 629 dimes, the most in school history.
- After scoring a career-high 14 points in the NCAA opener against Chattanooga on 6-for-7 shooting, OG Anunoby scored seven points on 3-for-4 shooting in today's game. He has now made 17 of his last 19 field goal attempts dating back to a March 6th win over Maryland.
