Hoosiers Explode for 27 Runs in Victory over Butler

Six players on Indiana's roster recorded at least two hits while four tallied at least three. Senior Brian Wilhite led the offensive onslaught, going 4-for-5 with two home runs, six RBI and four runs scored. Wilhite's second home run of the night was a grand slam, marking the first four-run knock of his career.
Also tallying four hits on the night was junior Craig Dedelow. Three of Dedelow's four hits were doubles, as the outfielder drove in five runs on the night. Also driving in five runs was junior Austin Cangelosi, who belted three hits, with two of them coming on the long ball. Indiana tallied five home runs altogether, with freshman Scotty Bradley hitting the first of his career.
On the mound, Indiana got a strong start from freshman Jonathan Stiever, who earned his first career victory. Stiever was near perfect in his outing, giving up just one hit and no runs in four innings of work while striking out three. Indiana as a staff gave up just six hits on the evening and struck out nine bulldogs. The Hoosiers, who entered the game fourth in the country for fewest walks allowed did not allow a single free base on balls on the evening.
Indiana's scoring started in the bottom of the second. Cangelosi led off with a single followed by a Ryan Fineman RBI double the other way to put the Hoosiers ahead 1-0. After junior Tony Butler walked, Wilhite's hot hitting continued as he drove in Fineman on a single to left. Dedelow followed that up with two-run double to the opposite field to give Indiana the 4-0 edge.
The runs came in the in the third for the Hoosiers as well. Sophomore Logan Sowers reached base as he was hit by a pitch. Cangelosi followed with the two-run home run, his second of the year, to put Indiana ahead by six. Following an RBI single from Alex Krupa, Dedelow got his third hit on a two-run double to deep right center. That capped off a five-run third inning for the Hoosiers to make it a 9-0 game.
A two-run fourth inning came on the two-run homer for Bradley. The barrage of long balls continued for the Hoosiers as Wilhite knocked one off the scoreboard to increase the Indiana lead to 12-0.
Indiana loaded the bases in the sixth inning on a base-hit from sophomore Demetrius Webb along with walks from sophomore Laren Eustace and Fineman. With two outs, Wilhite cracked his first career grand slam to give the Hoosiers a 16-0 lead.
In the seventh inning, Indiana sent 14 batters to the plate and tacked on 11 runs to up the lead to 27-1. The inning was highlighted by Cangelosi's second home run of the day, a three-run shot.
The Hoosiers are back in action this Friday at Indiana State with a first pitch of 6 p.m. Indiana will return to Bart Kaufman Field on Saturday at 3:05 to host the Sycamores followed by a 1:05 p.m. matchup on Sunday.
