KANSAS CITY - The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced today the 2015-16 NABC Division I All-District teams and coaches. Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, these student-athletes and coaches represent the finest basketball players and coaches across America.
Among those selected to the District 7 team were Indiana head coach Tom Crean and senior guard Kevin Yogi Ferrell. Crean was awarded the District 7 Coach of the Year award while Ferrell was named to the District 7 First Team.
Crean, who is a finalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Award and earned Big Ten Coach of the Year accolades, has guided Indiana to a 27-7 overall record so far this season with Indiana set to take on No. 1 seed North Carolina tonight in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament in Philadelphia. The Hoosiers went 15-3 in Big Ten play and capture the program's 22nd Big Ten title, which is tied for the most of any Big Ten men's basketball team all-time. It's the second Big Ten title in the last four years for the Hoosiers and the Hoosiers have advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third time in the last five seasons.
Ferrell ranks seventh in all-time scoring at Indiana (1,961) and was a unanimous First Team All-Big Ten selection this season as well as a Second Team All-American by numerous publications. He is also one of five finalists for the Cousy Award, which is handed out to the nation's top point guard each season. The Indianapolis product is averaging a team-best 17.1 points this season and has handed out 191 assists, just seven shy of passing Isiah Thomas' single-season IU record. His 629 career assists are the most in IU history and rank ninth all-time in Big Ten Conference history.
