Hoosiers in 11th Place After Three Days at NCAA Championships

ATLANTA – The No. 8-ranked Indiana University men's swimming and diving team had another terrific night at the 2016 NCAA Championships on Friday at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta.
After three days of competition, the Hoosiers sit in 11th place overall with a total score of 113.5. Texas leads all teams with a total of 366 headed in to the last day of the NCAA Championships on Saturday.
Joshua Arndt had one of the best performances of his career for the Hoosiers in the Championship Final of the 3-Meter dive, placing fourth overall to earn All-America honors with a score of 419.05.
By just qualifying for the Championship Final in the 3-Meter dive, Arndt makes it five-straight NCAA Championships the Hoosiers have had at least one diver in the A-Final of the event.
In the Championship Final of the 200 freestyle, Blake Pieroni finished eighth overall with a time of 1:33.24. The sophomore's time is the sixth-fastest in IU history and gives him the fastest nine performances in school history in the event.
In the 200 medley relay, the IU team of Bob Glover, Tanner Kurz, Vini Lanza and Ali Khalafalla posted a school record, placing 11th overall with a time of 1:24.36.
It was a great team effort for Indiana in the relay, as each member posted great splits, highlighted by a leadoff 50 backstroke of 21.23 from Glover.
Tanner Kurz was terrific for the Hoosiers in the Consolation Final of the 100 breaststroke, tying for 2nd place to finish in a tie for 10th overall. The senior touched in a time of 52.27 – the ninth-fastest time in school history.
Freshman Ian Finnerty placed 16th overall with a time of 54.43 for the Hoosiers.
In the Consolation Final of the 100 butterfly, Vini Lanza had a great final 50 yards, closing to place third and earn 11th place overall. Lanza touched the wall in a time of 45.98 – the third-fastest time in Indiana history.
Pieroni earned his sixth All-America honor on Friday, while Kurz notched his third and fourth. Lanza made it three All-America accolades so far in his first NCAA Championship, while Khalafalla tallied his fourth career All-America certificate.
Glover secured his second All-America honor, while both Arndt and Finnerty earned the first of their respective careers.
The 2016 NCAA Championships continue on Saturday morning at 10 a.m. ET for the Hoosiers with the prelims of the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke, 200 butterfly and 400 freestyle relay.
