BLOOMINGTON, Indiana – Indiana senior Kevin Yogi Ferrell wrapped up his career in an Indiana uniform on Thursday night at the 2016 State Farm College 3-Point Championship at the Berry Center in Cypress, Texas.
The Indianapolis native opened the 3-point contest with 22 points in the first round, highlighted by making all five shots from the top of the key. His first round total tied with Michigan State's Denzel Valentine for first place as they advanced to the semifinals along with Melvin Johnson (VCU) and Adam Smith (Georgia Tech).
Smith made 17 straight shots in the middle of his semifinal round and finished with 26 points. Ferrell was just behind him with 24 points round to advance to the finals. Ferrell's semifinal round included making all six of his 'money balls' along with all five shots from both corner positions.
In the finals, Smith went first and posted a score of 23. Ferrell missed a couple shots right out of the gate and was not able to recover on his way to 16 points and runner-up honors.
Ferrell was also runner-up in the Hot Shot competition earlier in the night, when he joined Minnesota's Rachel Banham and University of Mary's Devan Douglas. Teams had to make three shots from around the 3-point area and then one shot from half court in the fastest time.
