BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The list of things junior running back Devine Redding liked about Indiana football's scrimmage Saturday afternoon became extensive rather quickly.
He mentioned the team's intensity, the way the ball moved, the way players attacked and the opposing defense's play all specifically. Perhaps more importantly, he was happy to be able to play the game again.
"I liked everything," Redding said. "Overall, it was a great day."
The Hoosiers spent the early afternoon rotating players in and out of an intersquad scrimmage at Memorial Stadium.
The simulated game scenarios were some of the first snaps players were able to take this spring with the coaches standing off to the side watching to see how their players would respond to different situations.
"I think we're moving along just perfectly," fifth-year senior linebacker Dawson Fletcher said. "Just the intensity and the care. We always feel like we care as a whole a lot as a team, but we want to be better. We want to be the best in the Big Ten, and you can see that throughout each other's actions and how hard we're working."
When both Redding and Fletcher were analyzing the way their respective sides of the ball played in the scrimmage, both made a point of mentioning the other side of the ball. Fletcher said he's been impressed with the way IU's new-look offense has been coming together, while Redding was echoing the same sentiment.
"As far as everybody coming together, defensive and offensive players, we intermix," Redding said. "We all hang out with each other. We do things off the field more as a team than on the field. I think it's a big plus as far as coming together as a team."
At this point in the practice, the Hoosiers are still fine-tuning things before the spring game Little 500 weekend. But as far as Fletcher and Redding are concerned, IU is on track.
"Everyone on our team is rolling right now," Fletcher said.
