BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – With eight teams earning a perfect 1,000 Academic Progress Rate (APR) score for the 2014-15 academic year and three earning four-year multi-year perfect scores, Indiana University Athletics programs continue to excel in the classroom according to the NCAA's APR report.
The eight IU programs earning a perfect APR score for the 2014-15 academic year include men's golf, women's basketball, women's golf, women's rowing, women's swimming and diving, women's tennis, volleyball and water polo. The four teams that earned perfect multi-year scores of 1,000 for Indiana include men's golf, women's tennis and volleyball.
"I want to congratulate our students, coaches and staff for their outstanding achievements in the classroom," IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass said. "Reaching our highest academic potential and earning Indiana University degrees is a top priority and these scores reflect our commitment to academic excellence."
Last week, the NCAA also gave the IU men's golf, men's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball programs with APR public recognition which recognizes teams that posted a multi-year APR in the top 10 percent of all squads in each spot base on the most recent multi-year APR reports (through 2014-15).
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Noting The APR
• The most recent APR scores are based on a multi-year rate that averages scores from the 2011-12, 2012-13, 2013-14 and 2014-15 academic years.
• To compete in 2016-17 NCAA championships, teams must earn a 930 four-year average APR.
• The goal of the NCAA's academic performance program is improvement, not punishment. Not only does the program ensure accountability for student-athletes, teams and institutions, but also it provides fairness by considering individual circumstances per team and school.
