BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Senior Sam Monette has been selected a First Team All-Big Ten selection, the conference announced Thursday morning.
Monette, who earned All-Big Ten honors in 2013, 2014 and 2015 is the sixth student-athlete in IU men's tennis history to earn three or more All-Big Ten honors.
"Sam has had a great season and is very well deserving of being a First Team All-Big Ten selection," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "He had a great fall winning the regionals in singles and doubles. It is a great that he received this honor in arguably one of the toughest conferences in the nation."
Monette became the first IU athlete to win the ITA Regional Singles Championship this fall and has posted an overall singles record of 21-10 this season. Monette teamed with fellow senior Daniel Bednarczyk to also claim the ITA Regionals Doubles Championship.
Monette earned five ranked singles wins this season, including a victory over No. 7 seed Nicolas Alvarez of Duke at the USTA/ITA National Indoor Collegiate Championships.
In the spring Monette and Bednarczyk beat the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the country and currently ranked No. 10, Hugo Dojas and Felipe Soares from Texas Tech.
Senior Elliott Yee was honored by the Big Ten as the Sportsmanship honoree for the Hoosiers.
Monette and the Hoosiers begin play in the Big Ten Tournament at 12:30 p.m. ET today as the No. 5 seed taking on No. 12 Iowa in Minneapolis, Minn.
