Indiana finished 1-1-1 in 11-on-11 tournament; Seven-on-Seven tournament champions
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Indiana field hockey team showed the fruits of their labor in their first spring tournament this weekend, hosted by the University of Louisville. The Hoosiers opened the weekend on Saturday with a 1-1-1 campaign in the 11-on-11 tournament, tying Miami (Ohio) and notching a shutout win over Ohio. On Sunday, Indiana split into two teams for the seven-on-seven tournament. IU's first team won the tournament championship over Louisville, 4-3
Indiana began their weekend against Miami (Ohio) in the first round of the 11-a-side tournament, battling to a 1-1 draw. Sophomore Taylor Pearson scored Indiana's lone goal in that contest. Later in the day, the Hoosiers squared off against hosts Louisville. The Cardinals emerged victorious in a 2-1 score, with junior Morgan Dye scoring for Indiana.
The Hoosiers closed the first day with a 3-0 shutout win over the Ohio Bobcats. Pearson added her second goal of the day along with scores by freshman Claire Woods and junior All-American Kate Barber, who slotted a penalty stroke.
Indiana's goalkeeping tandem of Katie Johnson and Noëlle Rother split time between the pipes in the games against Miami and Ohio, combining for a shutout against the Bobcats. Rother played wire-to-wire in IU's game against Louisville.
There were a couple of welcome debuts and returns for the Hoosiers in Saturday's action. Sam Scire, a 2016 freshman who enrolled early and joined the Hoosiers at semester, made her first start of her career in the Miami game. Sophomore Elle Hempt, who joined the Hoosiers in 2015 but missed the majority of last season due to injury, returned this weekend in a starting role at center back.

After falling 1-0 to Ball State in their second game, Indiana rebounded with a 2-0 win over Ohio. Woods and Scire sent shots into the boards to give Indiana their third shutout win of the weekend.

Indiana followed with another 4-3 win in the championship game over Louisville, a game decided in an overtime shootout. Pearson recorded her second brace of the day with two scores, and Scire secured the tying goal. After a 3-3 regulation, Indiana won the penalty stroke battle with a goal from Pearson and a game-winner by Scire. On the other end, Rother made two saves to preserve the shootout win.
