Sydney Clute Earns Second Straight Big Ten Championship

Sydney Clute set three records on her way to the conference championship in the pole vault. With her clearance of 4.31m she clinched the Big Ten Championship and facility record, but she was not done there. The bar was then set at 4.37m. She cleared that to earn the Big Ten Conference Championships record. Finally, she cleared 4.42m (14ft 6in) to take over the school record.
Clute now has won back-to-back pole vault conference championships. She also holds the indoor and outdoor school records. She is currently ranked as the ninth best vaulter in the nation.
Daniel Kuhn earned second team All-Big Ten honors with his runner-up finish in the 800m run. He ran 1:47.01.
Jason Crist took third in the men's 5,000m run after a strong kick in the last 200m. He started the kick in sixth and moved up to third as he crossed in 14:13.32.
Willie Morrison finished fourth in the men's shot put with a career best mark of 19.25m (63ft 2in). He came into the finals in seventh before hitting his mark on the first throw of the finals.
Sophie Gutermuth cleared the bar at 4.16m (13ft 7.75in) to tie for fourth place in the women's pole vault.
Brenna Calder led the Hoosiers in the 1500m run by finishing fifth with a time of 4:22.71. Olivia Hippensteel and Katherine Receveur were right behind in sixth and seventh with times of 4:24.00 and 4:24.24, respectively. Owen Skeete scored a point for the men with an eighth place finish in the 1500m run with a time of 3:47.99.
Taylor Williams scored a point by finishing eighth in the 400m dash with a time of 54.89. Diquis Manley also earned one point for his eighth place finish in the 400m hurdles. He crossed with a time of 51.87.
The 4x100m relay team of Ari Nelson, Riley Egbula, Maya Caudle, and Jaela Gay finished eighth with a time of 46.01. The 4x400m relay team of Egbula, Kendell Wiles, Taylor Wiley, and Williams also scored a point with a season best time of 3:41.24, the tenth best time in school history.
The women's team finished ninth with 53.50 points. The men's team was tenth with 36 points.
The next track and field event will be the East Regional in Jacksonville two weeks from now.
