This year's slate features 10 contests against last year's top 30
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana field hockey head coach Amanda Janney announced Wednesday the upcoming 19-game schedule for the fall 2016 season. This year, the Hoosiers will play host to eight home events, including their annual Cream & Crimson Scrimmage on Friday, August 19 at 2:00 p.m.
What lies ahead for Indiana, who finished last season with a 9-10 record and a No. 28 NCAA RPI ranking, is an exciting season loaded with some of the best out-of-conference programs in the country. In 2015, 10 of Indiana's future opponents finished the season ranked in the national top 30, and seven reached last year's NCAA Tournament.
Following the Cream & Crimson Scrimmage, the Hoosiers head to Muncie for an exhibition game against the Ball State Cardinals on Saturday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m. Indiana will open their home schedule on Friday, August 26 at 3:00 p.m. with their annual Battle of the Border matchup against the Louisville Cardinals.
It's a quick turnaround after the home opener for the Hoosiers, as they head to the state of Ohio for two weekends of neutral site competition. On Sunday, August 28 at 1:00 p.m., Indiana will take the turf at Ohio University against Lock Haven.
Indiana returns to Columbus, Ohio for a Labor Day weekend versus two teams hailing from opposite coastlines. On Sunday, September 5, the Hoosiers enter a matchup against Wake Forest, Janney's alma mater, at 12:00 p.m. The Demon Deacons won last year's ACC Tournament, and are three-time NCAA Champions. That Monday, September 6, Indiana will wrap up their Ohio trip with a neutral game versus UC Davis at 1:00 p.m.
The Hoosiers head to St. Louis on Friday, September 9, for a matchup on neutral turf against Missouri State. That Sunday, September 11, Indiana returns to friendly confines with a home game versus the New Hampshire Wildcats.
To open their 2016 Big Ten Conference schedule, Indiana hits the road to take on Maryland on Saturday, September 17 at 1:00 p.m. Last season at Maryland, under the lights, the Hoosiers and Terrapins battled to a one-goal overtime result in one of the most thrilling games of the Big Ten season. Following that game, the Hoosiers will make a stop in Newark for a contest against Delaware on Sunday, September 18 at 12:00 p.m.
Indiana starts the next weekend at home, on Friday, September 23, against Rutgers, which is set to air live to a national audience on the Big Ten Network at 3:30 p.m. Following that, the Hoosiers head to Central Michigan for a noon game on Sunday, September 25.
The Hoosiers begin their next weekend in Big Ten action with a home game on Friday, September 30 against Iowa, set to begin at 3:00 p.m. Last season, Indiana kicked off a weekend with two ranked wins by defeating the Hawkeyes, 3-1. The Hoosiers will bookend the weekend at Miami University (Ohio), on Sunday, October 2, at 1:00 p.m.
The next weekend yields two home games for the Hoosiers. They open the weekend on Friday, October 7 with a game against Northwestern at 3:00 p.m.
Indiana's Sunday, October 9 game against Boston College is Indiana Field Hockey Alumni Day at the IU Field Hockey Complex. Alumni are encouraged to attend a dinner with the team on Saturday, October 8. The game on Sunday is set for a 12:00 p.m. start, and alumni are invited to tailgate with the Hoosiers following the game.

Indiana will close their home schedule on Friday, October 21 with their Senior Day game versus the Ohio State Buckeyes, during which the Hoosiers will recognize their senior class—Kate Barber, Morgan Dye, Malia Fujisawa, and Mollie Getzfread—for their dedication to Indiana University Athletics and IU Field Hockey. The ceremony will precede the game, which is set to begin at 3:00 p.m.
The Hoosiers will bring their season to a conclusion with two road games against two top-tier opponents. On Friday, October 28, Indiana plays their Big Ten closer at Penn State with an evening start of 6:00 p.m. To end the regular season, the Hoosiers head to Syracuse to face the defending NCAA Champions, the Syracuse Orange, on Sunday, October 30 at 1:00 p.m.
