BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana volleyball class of 2016 has been named the No. 29 recruiting class in the country by PrepVolleyball.com. The ranking is the best for the Hoosiers since 2009.
The class of 2016 includes Ally Badowski, 6-0 OH, Brunswick (Ohio); Victoria Brisack, 6-0 S, Verona (Wisconsin); Hayden Huybers, 6-1 MB/RS, Hamilton Southeastern (Fishers, Indiana); Meaghan Koors, 5-8 L, Cathedral (Indianapolis, Indiana); Deyshia Lofton, 6-2 MB, Plainfield South (Plainfield, Illinois).
Here is what PrepVolleyball.com commented about the Hoosiers recruiting class.
Indiana University volleyball head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan isn't shy about describing the talent in her 2016 recruiting class. "This is an impact class," she noted. "They have many individual accolades, and as a large class will immediately fill gaps with the departure of five seniors. At every level, these five have won, and I think that is so important when you come into the Big Ten Conference."
Badowski, No. 80 in the Senior Aces, comes to Bloomington with the loftiest reputation. The First Team All-Ohio player has a lightning-quick arm speed and natural blocking tendencies and is the type of terminating outside the Hoosiers need. She has all-Big Tem potential. Brisack is a natural-born leader with high-level club experience and the chance to impact immediately at setter after arriving on campus early. She was the Madison-area POY in 2015. Huybers, an athletic middle, exploded her senior season while leading Hamilton Southeastern to unprecedented heights in 2015. Huybers is smart and her year under the tutelage of Mike Lingenfelter at Munciana has her poised to start immediately.
Lofton, who plays for Sports Performance, also is Big Ten ready. She has dynamic speed and her plus approach and vertical will give the Hoosiers a definite boost in the middle with blocking and attacking. She is the perfect fit as the go-to middle for the Hoosiers' fast-tempo offense. Koors rounds out the class. A pure winner who recently helped Cathedral win state and national championships, she is a pure passer who will be a dynamic defender as well as a backrow offensive threat from the DS position. Hoosier Nation has much to be excited about when these five highly-touted freshmen join redshirt freshman Kendall Beerman (6-2 OH, Tates Creek (Lexington, Kentucky)) as the core class that is expected to move Indiana volleyball to new heights in the years to come.
