BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana men's tennis incoming recruiting class has been ranked No. 14 in the country and No. 2 in the Big Ten by Tennis Recruiting Network as announced today.
The Hoosiers class of 2016 includes Zac Brodney (Los Angeles, California/Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies), Bennett Crane (Huntersville, North Carolina/RJ Reynolds High School), William Piekarsky(Bloomington, Indiana/Bloomington High School South) and Payam Ahmadi (Reston, Virginia/South Lakes High School).
"We are excited to have Zac, Bennett, William and Payam join the Hoosiers next fall," IU head coach Jeremy Wurtzman said. "They have great character and a strong work ethic that will be a great fit for the culture that we are continuing to build at Indiana."
Zac comes from Los Angeles, California and is a five-star recruit.
"Zac is a talented lefty that has a great passion for the game," Wurtzman said. "He has been a highly ranked player out of Southern California in every age division. His experience playing against the nations best will help his transition to the Big Ten."
Bennett comes from Huntersville, North Carolina and trains at the Randy Pate Tennis Academy. He is a two-time National Doubles Champion and a five-star recruit.
"Bennett has proven to be one of the best players for his class in both singles and doubles," Wurtzman said. "He has had a great junior career winning two gold balls in doubles and a lot of success on the singles court as he is the #19 recruit for his class. We look forward to developing Bennett in to a great college player."
William is from Bloomington, Ind., and is a two-time All-State honoree for Indiana high school tennis and a three-time Area Player of the Year. He is also a top-20 player in 18s for the Midwest region.
"Will is going to be a great addition to the team at IU," Wurtzman said. "He comes in already knowing what it means to be a Hoosier as he grew up in Bloomington and took lessons at IU. We look for him to add a ton to the culture that we are building at IU and for him to develop his tennis at Indiana."
Payam is the No. 1 ranked player in the boys 18s Mid Atlantic Section and is a five- star recruit. He reached as high as No. 37 on TennisRecruiting.net and was the Silver Ball Doubles winner at the 2015 Winter Nationals.
"Payam has had great success on both the singles and doubles court at the national level," Wurtzman said. "He comes in as a five-star recruit that has great potential to continue to improve and be a very good college tennis player. He will also be great for our team as he brings a ton of energy in both practice and on match day."
"It is great to have one of the top recruiting classes in the country," Wurtzman said. "Coach Murray and I have put together a very talented and high character group of young men and look forward to developing them at Indiana."
