BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For the third time in four semesters, Indiana Women's Soccer has won the Herbert Cup by registering the highest team GPA at Indiana during Spring 2016.
The Hoosiers posted a GPA of over 3.6, earning the best mark in program history on the way to their second consecutive award. Women's Soccer also won the Herbert Cup in Fall 2014, which was the first time in the team's history.
"This is an extraordinary accomplishment for IU Women's Soccer and an amazing year for the players academically," said the team's academic advisor, Eileen O'Rourke. "They earned our highest semester GPA, are recipients of the Herbert Cup two semesters in a row and constantly push themselves to achieve their very best. They are ideal student-athletes and to earn a team academic award speaks volumes of the remarkable team culture that surrounds this program."
The program's other recent academic accomplishments include earning 14 Academic All-Big Ten selections, four consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Awards and an NSCAA Scholar All-Region pick in Sarah Stone.
Women's Soccer utilizes academic captains to guide the team's classroom goals and encourage excellence. Sophomore Kayla Smith served in that roll during the 2015-16 school year and recently spoke to IUHoosiers.com's Sam Beishuizen about the team's success. Click here to read more.
