BRYAN, Texas – The Indiana women's golf team saw its 2015-16 season come to a close on Saturday at the Traditions Club at the NCAA Regional, where the Hoosiers finished in 15th place after a final round 306 gave them a total score of 909 for the tournament.
The top six teams along with the top three individuals that were not on a team that advanced moved on the NCAA Championship in Eugene, Oregon on May 20.
With the conditions and pin locations making things a challenge, the course played nearly three strokes more difficult in round three than it did in round two, all but one team shooting a higher score in the final round than they did in the second round.
Senior Camille Chevalier closed out her IU career with a 79, giving her a total score of 224 (+8) and a tie for 42nd individually. After moving to 1-under on her round after a birdie on her second hole of the day – par 3 11th hole – Chevalier was not able to make another birdie in her round, but had a number of chances that just didn't drop.
Junior Ana Sanjuan logged the round of the day for IU, going around in 1-over par 73 to move up to a tie for 50th on the individual leaderboard. She capped off her final round, which featured a team-best four birdies - with a stellar approach shot that stopped about 15 feet from the pin and then she rolled in the birdie putt. While the scorecard says that she shot 1-over par, when looking at the average score for the field in the final round (77.16), she was 4-under compared to the field.
Another junior who came on strong at the end of the season and finished the year playing the best golf of her career was Theresa-Ann Jedra. Taking away a double bogey on her final hole, her final round was as steady as could be, as he carded a 4-over par 76 and finished tied for 67th with a total score of 230(+14). She opened her round with a birdie on the par 5 10th hole but ran into some trouble in the middle of her front nine, carding three bogeys in a four hole stretch to make the turn at 2-over par. She then birdied the par 3 2nd hole – her 11th hole of the day – to get back to 1-over before a bogey on her 15th hole and the double bogey on the final hole.
Freshman Erin Harper also opened with a birdie on her first hole, but was never able to get things going in the right direction the rest of her round on her way to an 83. Her total score for the tournament of 235 put her in a tie for 76th at 19-over par.
Alix Kong, who struggled to find a rhythm in the first two rounds, battle back in the final round to post 78 with six bogeys and 12 pars on the day. Her total score of 247 put her in 91st place.
This regional appearance marked the fifth for the Hoosiers under head coach Clint Wallman and the first since 2013 while it was the 22nd NCAA appearance in program history.
