BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana volleyball head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan has announced assistant coach Paul Koncir has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.
"I have been very fortunate to have some great assistants over my 13 years of head coaching with Coach Koncir being one of those," Dunbar-Kruzan said. "I value loyalty, hard work and a total buy in when it comes to working together. Coach K has done those three as well or better than any assistant I've had. Heading into our seventh season of working together, I felt he was very deserving of this promotion to Associate Head Coach."
Koncir's first season at Indiana was a historic one in 2010, as Indiana advanced to the NCAA Tournament and made a run to the Sweet Sixteen for the first time in program history. The Hoosiers finished the season 23-12 and saw Ashley Benson and Jordan Haverly earn All-Big Ten recognition. The Hoosiers won a 3-1 thriller at home over eventual NCAA champion Penn State, and IU took down Tennessee and Miami in NCAA first and second round action.
"I have always been so thankful and honored for the opportunity Coach Dunbar gave me to be a part of the Indiana Volleyball program and the Big Ten Conference," Koncir said. "I am humbled that she would consider me for this position. We have worked tirelessly over the years with the players to grow a level of commitment and focus to win in the best volleyball conference the country. I could not be more excited for this upcoming fall and this group of players. Their attitudes are great, we are coming off of our best spring season of training and are as motivated and excited as ever to win for Indiana."
Koncir has worked extensively with the setters and senior setter Megan Tallman comes into her final season at Indiana with 2,908 career assists, which ranks seventh on the Hoosiers all-time list for career assists.
Koncir and the Hoosiers start the 2016 season at home with the Indiana Invitational Aug. 26-27 at University Gym.
