BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - Indiana University sophomore's Thomas Bryant and OG Anunoby were included on a list of the 50 Best College Basketball Players for 2016-17 in an article written by Jason McIntyre of the Big Lead.
Both players have been lauded since last season as future NBA prospects, but both decided to return to the Hoosiers to continue the development that has shown marked improvement for both. They are spending this weekend in Los Angeles as college camp counselors at Adidas nations.
"Being a part of IU basketball is special and I'm excited to continue my development as a person and as a basketball player under Coach Crean," said Bryant in announcing his return. "The bond I have with my teammates and coaches is strong. Our plan is to continue to work hard and build off of the many great things we did last year and add to the tradition here."
Bryant was ranked the 28th best player in the Class of 2015 and was chosen as a favorite for Big Ten Player of the Year and was rated as the sixth best player in the country headed into next season.
Bryant was a third-team All-Big Ten selection after averaging 11.9 points and 5.8 rebounds. He also led the Big Ten when he shot 68.3% from the field. In the NCAA Tournament, he averaged 14.7 points in three games and had 19 points and five boards in the Hoosiers win over #10 Kentucky in the round of 32. He also was a member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team and twice this season was Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
The 6-10 center is a native of Rochester, N.Y. and came to IU from Huntington Prep.
Anunoby was the 284th ranked player of the 2015 freshman class but was chosen as the 27th best player that will play next season.
"I love my teammates and coaches and look forward to getting better every day with their help," said Anunoby in announcing his return.
Anunoby played in 34 games for the Hoosiers during his freshman season and averaged 4.9 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 56.9 percent from the floor. His numbers increased in Big Ten play, where he posted averages of 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds and shot 40.9 percent from behind the 3-point line while blocking 13 shots and coming away with 17 steals.
