Borschke, Ellis and Smith Named to B1G Preseason Honors List

ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced its 2016 Women's Soccer Preseason Honors List on Monday, featuring Indiana redshirt senior defender Marissa Borschke, senior defender Veronica Ellis and junior forward Kayla Smith.
Borschke, a native of Burlington, Ontario, Canada, earned the honor for the second consecutive season. Last year, she helped anchor a backline that posted six shutouts and a scoreless streak of 463 minutes, the second longest in Indiana history. Borschke played every minute of the 2015 season and netted a pair of goals for the Hoosiers.
Ellis, a starter in every game last year, leads the 2016 squad in career goals scored with five. The Naperville, Ill. native split time last season as a midfielder and defender and was named to both the Boilermaker Challenge Cup and Stomp in the Swamp All-Tournament teams.
Smith was also awarded Big Ten Preseason honors last season and started all 19 games. A native of Green Lane, Pa., she led the team with 26 shots in 2015, including nine on goal. Smith was named to the Stomp in the Swamp All-Tournament team last season and is the active team leader in career assists.
Indiana Women's Soccer kicks off the 2016 season this Friday as the Hoosiers play host to Louisville at 7 p.m.
