Hoosiers Fall to Loyola University Chicago, 2-0

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The No. 14-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team opened up the 2016 exhibition season with a 2-0 setback to Loyola University Chicago at Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. on Tuesday night.
Prior to the start of the formal game, the two teams played one informal 35 minute period with players that were not scheduled to see as much time in the formal game getting an opportunity to play extended minutes.
In that informal period, the Hoosiers came away with a 3-0 win. Richard Ballard led the way for the Hoosiers, tallying a goal and an assist in the victory. Trevor Swartz and Austin Panchot also scored for Indiana, while Cory Thomas notched an assist.
"In the first period we came out and scored three great goals and I thought the team performed well," IU head coach Todd Yeagley said. "In the second and third periods, we weren't as sharp as we needed to be. We need to be sharper and we know that."
The game was moved to the new indoor field at Grand Park after heavy rains in Bloomington made the pitch at Armstrong Stadium unplayable on Tuesday.
The Hoosiers will face Oakland in an exhibition match on Thursday, Aug. 18 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
