Three Hoosiers Named to B1G Preseason Honors List

CHICAGO – Indiana University men's soccer's Tanner Thompson, Grant Lillard and Andrew Gutman were named to the Big Ten Preseason Honors List on Tuesday.
Along with the Preseason Honors List, the league also announced the preseason coaches poll, which saw the No. 14-ranked Hoosiers picked to finish second in the conference behind No. 4-ranked Maryland.
A First-Team Preseason All-America selection by College Soccer News, Thompson was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List last month. In 2015, Thompson was named Third-Team All-America by both the NSCAA and Top Drawer Soccer after totaling three goals while leading the Big Ten with nine assists. Along with the All-America distinction, Thompson was also named First-Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten Midfielder of the Year and First-Team All-Midwest Region.
Lillard, who was named a Third-Team Preseason All-American by College Soccer News, was also named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in July. A 2015 First-Team All-Big Ten and First-Team All-Midwest Region selection, Lillard started all 21 matches for the Hoosiers, helping anchor a backline that recorded 10 shutouts. The Hinsdale, Ill. also totaled four goals and five assists.
Gutman had a tremendous rookie season for the Hoosiers in 2015, earning Top Drawer Soccer Freshman Best XI First Team accolades, Second-Team All-Big Ten honors as well as being a unanimous selection to the league's All-Freshman team. The Hinsdale, Ill. product was also named Third-Team All-Midwest Region by the NSCAA. The rookie also had the game-winning goal at Northwestern and also tallied an assist during the season.
The Hoosiers will face Oakland in an exhibition match on Thursday, Aug. 18 at Jerry Yeagley Field at Bill Armstrong Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
