CB Coach Coach Shelby
On Keeping Guys Fresh Through Camp...
Shelby: A lot of the veterans school the young guys. There are going to be days where your legs are a little tired and you just have to push through. It is more mental than physical. But we try to do a couple of things that keep it light, like the dunk tank where they get a chance to dunk us. It is always a fun time, but we also have the ability to go to work when we need to. Thus far I think we have done a good job of doing that.
On the Corners...
Shelby: The first couple of weeks they have done a great job of taking on a new scheme and playing hard. We had a couple of days where we fell off, but for the most part I am very proud of their effort and the way they have been running around and making plays. I am excited about some of the young guys, as well as some of the older guys, so it is going to be an exciting year.
Fant's Leadership...
Shelby: He is starting to figure it out. The young guys will look to you when you are tired and trying to push yourself through. He has to, physically and mentally, keep going. He is fitting in that role, but I need more from him. I expect a lot from him and I am excited to see what he can do this year.
Scrimmage Tomorrow...
At this point, we are looking to have great communication. We want to get precise. They are going to make some plays. We have a good offense. The main this is to keep the ball in front of us, tackle well, be confident and get some swag. This is the point of the year where you build swag going into the first game. FIU is down there practicing hard, and we need to do a great job of getting ready to play them in a couple of weeks. We need to finish strong.
DB Rashard Fant
Today's Practice...
Fant: It went well. Coach Shelby said he wanted to see us compete more. We won some and lost some, but overall it was pretty back-and-forth between everyone, the Huskies, the safeties and both corners on the outside. It was a fun time. It is always fun competing, especially during camp, competing and getting ready for the season.
On Playing with a Chip...
Fant: They present a challenge every day to me. Every day they say I am held to a higher standard. They are the hardest on me, especially Coach Shelby. I have to learn to deal with that and go out and play the best that I can, not only for them, but to make my teammates and myself proud.
On Young Standouts...
Fant: A'Shon Riggins has been really coming along. He has gotten a lot of reps and has been doing a great job. He has a lot of picks right now. Marcelino Ball is a Georgia kid as well, which I love, and we worked out together when we were in high school. Those two are really sticking out and I cannot wait to see what they do out here in two weeks, a little bit less than two weeks. I am excited to see that.
