The 2016 Hoosiers
IU head coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan enters her 10th season at the helm for the Indiana volleyball program with high hopes for this season. Although the team graduated five seniors they bring in six newcomers, including a freshmen class of five, which was ranked No. 29 in the country by PrepVolleyball.Com.
Looking Ahead
Following the Indiana Invitational the Hoosiers travel west to San Francisco for the San Francisco Invitational Sept. 2-3. The following weekend the Hoosiers are in Ft. Myers, Fla., for the FGCU Invitational, before returning home Sept. 16-17 to close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with the Hoosier Classic.
Thoughts from Head Coach Sherry Dunbar-Kruzan
On preseason practice
"First of all I thought our spring season was very good. You only have two weeks before your playing your first match. You have to hone in on what you think is the most important to work on to win those first few matches. We found the pace that we play at, the intensity and the speed, so we really focused on that. We also focused on passing and serving to control the rhythm."
On expectations for the Indiana Invitational
"We had four different scrimmages in preseason where we set up the main court, put on the jerseys and did an all out scrimmage. I think that first weekend for anyone, no matter if you are a freshman or a senior there is nervousness about it. So we tried to get that out during the Cream & Crimson Scrimmage. You are looking for a good flow. Your are not asking them to play great, you are asking them to stay focused and do their jobs. What we want to see is improvement all the time."
