BLOOMINGTON – Indiana University Athletics, in conjunction with the city of Bloomington, will launch its Football is BIG at IU art initiative during the opening week of the 2016 Indiana football season. The Hoosiers will open the season at Florida International on Thursday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Twelve oversized fiberglass footballs (four at a time) will be displayed throughout Bloomington in support of the 2016 Indiana football season and will showcase the diverse talents of local artists. Each ball will represent one of IU's 12 regular season games this fall.
IU Athletics is calling upon local artists for an opportunity to show off their talents while supporting the Hoosiers. Artists and art groups selected to create one of the footballs will be provided with a stipend and funds for supplies totaling $1,000.
While IU Athletics encourages artists and groups to add their own artistic interpretation for each football, they also request that each ball carry the following elements:
The oversized footballs are the property of Indiana University and will be incorporated into a fundraising project for local charities at the end of the season.
