Chase Dutra – DB – R-Jr.
On changes...
Dutra: Obviously we have had some coaching changes, a lot of different players come in, last year we played with a lot of young guys. We are experienced now. We have John [Crawford] with a lot of experience under his belt, Andre Brown, Tyler Green, me and [Rashard] Fant. We have young guys like Marcelino [Ball] coming in who have a chance to play. We are just building on everyday stuff. We are trying to get the playbook down. We are trying to build on our experience and get ready for the season.
On leadership...
Dutra: Yesterday we had some down time and I tried to get the guys in the film room. We were trying to figure out what is confusing us, what is hurting us, what we need to get better on. It is just the little things like being on time, cleaning up our lockers, and holding everyone accountable is what I am doing to try to make us a better group as a whole.
On Coach Allen...
Dutra: He has a lot of juice. He holds you very responsible, he expects you to know your stuff, he is not going to play anyone that does not know his stuff. He is really enthusiastic. He loves the game and he love us.
Jonathan Crawford – DB – So.
On approach this year...
Crawford: A lot more confidence than last year in what I am doing, in the offensive schemes and what they are going to do.
On Coach Allen...
Crawford: He expects a lot. One thing he has is juice. He is always excited. If you mess up he still comes to talk to you, he still has juice after that, he never gets down and he is always pumping us up.
On spring and summer work...
Crawford: Having more confidence, being patient, and knowing our playbook. We were young last year and had a lot of trouble with the playbook, but this year we are just getting down to it.
On camp so far...
Crawford: For the defense, I think we are way better than we were last year. We are making a lot of improvements.
Noah Joseph – Safeties Coach
On camp so far...
Joseph: We are looking good, especially in the back end. We missed a lot of those guys in spring practice with injuries from the fall. We are trying to get them back in the groove, get them comfortable and get their legs back. The neat thing is seeing guys that did go through the spring, like Tony Fields, Jonathan Crawford and Ben Bach, and the progress they have made from the end of spring practice until now, which means they have been working hard this summer.
On the focus...
Joseph: In spring ball especially we were learning the defense, terminology, fits and the scheme. In the summer is just fine-tuning and concentrating more on our fundamental aspect of blocking protection, tackling and those sorts of things.
On a standard being set...
Joseph: If you look at our program, at least since I have been here, with the running backs and the offensive line there has been a high standard set. We are now mature enough and guys have played a little bit as young guys to understand those standards. We set those standards in our room, they have pride in it, and they are trying to keep the young guys accountable. We have not really had that in our room before.
