Kevin Wilson Quotes
On Camp so far...
Wilson: Good. Day four was today. We will go full pads tomorrow. Our first two-a-day will be on Monday. We will have a mini-scrimmage on Tuesday and then take a day off. It has been very humid the first few days. Our team is big and strong and I think we have battled the elements. We have worked hard. I am very encouraged by today's practice. Our best practice to date. I love what the coaches are doing and the kids are buying in. We have some great senior leaders and I like what is happening.
The rebranding of the defense...
Wilson: He [Coach Allen] has got a lot of confidence and positive energy. He has done a great job of getting our staff to be consistent and sells the same message to the assistants that filters down to the players. I think they have done a great job of connecting with our veteran players: Marcus Oliver, Tegray Scales, Ralph Green, Dawson Fletcher and Chase Dutra. Those guys are taking the message to the team. Tom has done a great job of having a standard and he is pushing those guys harder than they have ever been pushed.
On offensive goals...
Wilson: You start back over every year with your identity. The quarterback play is going to need to come through. He will be surrounded by some good players. Our defense is challenging them very hard with a lot of different looks and coverages. They are really making those guys work. Our deal is to be a physical offense, to take of the ball and score points. Today, being the second day of pads, the physical side of our play needs to pick up as we roll through the first two weeks of camp.
Goals for next week...
Wilson: "We are taking this first week, again with a very mature team, a lot of guys back, a lot of talent, we did not start day one and two just trying to smash and wear them out. We are trying to build. We have a progression, not only of teaching the plays, but the progression of our contact and hitting. We are going from individual to group drills. We are using our threes a lot to not over-hit some of our starters. We are getting great special teams work. We are taking this first week to build through the scrimmage on Tuesday then taking a day off. The next week we will really start dialing up the hitting and the volume of work that we do.
