Hoosiers Top South Alabama, 3-0

FT. MYERS, Fla. – Senior Taylor Lebo served up five aces and the Hoosiers cruised to a three-set win over South Alabama (25-17, 25-18, 25-23) in their second match of the Homewood Suites Classis at Alico Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The five aces for Lebo moved her into ninth on the Hoosiers all-time list for career aces at 111 and helped Indiana secure a 9-0 start for just the fourth time in program history. The five aces are also tied for the second most in school history for a three-set match.
Senior Jazzmine McDonald represented a key part of the Indiana attack with 10 kills on 14 attempts with one error to hit at a .643 clip. Freshman Deyshia Lofton made a significant impact with six blocks, including two solo blocks.
The Hoosiers (9-0) got off to a quick start with 15 kills in the first set and an efficient attack with a .407 hitting percentage compared to .069 for South Alabama.
In the second stanza the Hoosiers offense slowed down, but Indiana put pressure on South Alabama with five aces, including three from senior Allison Hammond.
The Hoosiers came out to close the match in three sets, but South Alabama did not give up. With the match tied 21-21 an Indiana ball handling error gave South Alabama the edge 22-21 and the Hoosiers took a timeout.
A kill from Jazzmine McDonald evened the match 22-22 and a ball handling error by South Alabama gave Indiana set and match point at 24-23. Lebo put the exclamation point on the match with an ace to end it.
The Hoosiers will close out play against tournament host Florida Gulf Coast at 7:00 p.m. ET.
