BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana defensive back Marcelino Ball earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors, the league announced today. The true freshman is the first Hoosier to collect the accolade since safety Jonathan Crawford (Sept. 21, 2015).
Ball, IU's starting husky, collected the first interception of his career in the second quarter of the team's 30-20 victory over Ball State on Saturday. He tied for the Indiana lead with eight tackles, all solo.
In two games, Ball shares the top spot on the Hoosiers with 13 tackles, including a team-leading nine solo stops, to go along with the INT and one pass breakup.
IU (2-0) returns to action to action when it hosts Wake Forest (2-0) on Saturday, Sept. 24. Game time has not yet been announced.
