#IUWG alum Shannon Johnson advances to final of U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur

BLOOMINGTON – Indiana Women's Golf alumna Shannon Johnson has advanced to the final of the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur competition at The Kahkwa Club in Erie, Pa.
Johnson, who graduated from IU in 2006, is competing in her third U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur and ninth USGA individual championship. She advanced to Thursday's final by defeating Olivia Herrick 1-up.
She competed in the 2016 U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur as well, where she advanced to the quarterfinals. In her pro career, she has won 12 South Dakota Golf Association titles including the 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 Women's Amateur Championships.
She will face off against Indianapolis native and Mizzou grad Julia Potter for the title. Tee time is set for 9 a.m. ET tomorrow. Fans can follow along by clicking here.
In one season with the Hoosiers, Johnson competed in 32 rounds of play, earning All-Big Ten honors in 2006 after leading the team with a 74.38 stroke average. That is the third-lowest season average in school history. Johnson is also tied for second in the individual record book with a low round of 68, set at the 2006 UNLV Spring Invitational.
In her one season at IU after transferring from New Mexico, Johnson won individual medalist honors at the Notre Dame Invitational and at UNLV. She closed out the season with a tie for eighth at the Big Ten Championships.
