Indiana Opens Fall Play with a Sweep of Wright State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball opened its fall slate with a doubleheader sweep of Wright State, defeating the Raiders, 15-4 and 4-1, on Friday night at Andy Mohr Field.
In game one, Indiana saw an offensive burst with 15 runs sored on 15 total hits, including 10 different Hoosiers collecting a hit and nine scoring at least one run. Sophomore Sarah Galovich turned in a three-run effort, while junior Rebecca Blitz, freshman Sydney Hester, freshman Gabbi Jenkins and senior Kayla Mathewson each scored twice in the victory.
In addition, Mathewson collected three hits on the way to four RBI, while Blitz, junior Aimilia McDonough and freshman Katie Lacefield each knocked a pair of hits.
Sophomore Tara Trainer and sophomore transfer Jessica Conenna performed well in the circle, combining for just two earned runs and striking out eight.
Game two saw redshirt sophomore pitcher Emily Kirk toss a complete game, allowing just one earned run.
Mathewson once again came up big as she picked up a run and a RBI on one hit and one walk. Also posting another impressive effort was Galovich, who hit a two-run homer in the 4-1 win. Lacefield and fellow freshman Hester also plated a run for the Hoosiers.
Indiana returns to action on Sunday as the Hoosiers visit Grand Park in Westfield, Ind. for Softball Game Day presented by Bullpen Tournaments. IU will take on Butler at 1 p.m. and Miami (Ohio) at 3 p.m. For more information, click here.
