BLOOMINGTON - The IU Excellence Academy has had a busy month of September to get the semester started with various events and meetings taking place for Indiana student-athletes. Some of those events have included the Freshman Excellence Session, Hoosier Networking Night and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) had its first meeting of the year.

In the Freshmen Excellence Session for September, student-athletes learned about what it means to reach their highest athletic potential and win championships. IU head basketball coach Tom Crean and Olympian swimming gold medalist Lilly King spoke about embracing the privilege that comes with being an Indiana student-athlete and representing IU on the conference, national and even international stage.
Hoosier Networking Night allowed student-athletes the opportunity to network with both local and national businesses, organizations and graduate schools. There was a large turnout from employers and graduate schools. The employers covered a wide range of careers including merchandise, hospitality, sales, electronic commerce, automobiles and community groups. In addition, more student-athletes attended this event than ever before. The student-athlete attendees ranged from freshmen and sophomores interested in exploring careers to juniors and seniors in search of internships and jobs. Since the event, some student-athletes have already received interviews from businesses they networked with.
Indiana SAAC also held their first meeting of the year. Student-athletes had the opportunity to meet fellow Hoosiers, engage in a friendly Minute To Win It style competition and give input on various topics within athletics.
