Hoosiers Begin Fall Slate with Purdue Invitational

Bloomington, Ind. – The Indiana University men's tennis team will kickoff their fall season this weekend with the Purdue Fall Invitational in West Lafayette.
Participating in the invite for the Hoosiers are senior, Stefan Lugonjic, and three freshmen, Payam Ahmadi, Zac Brodney, and William Piekarsky.
Along with the Hoosiers, Purdue will host 16 schools at the Schwartz Tennis Center and Purdue Rec Sports Center.
First round draws for the Hoosier participants are as followed:
Singles
Zac Brodney vs. Lucas Anderson (Ball State) at 10 AM on Friday
Stefan Lugonjic vs. Wilder Pimentel (Southern Illinois) at 10 AM on Friday
Will Pierkarsky vs. Luka Vitosevic (Toledo) at 10 AM on Friday
Payam Ahmadi vs. Nemanja Gruzina (Ball State) at 10 AM on Friday
Doubles
Ahmadi/Lugonjic vs. Shabat/Gerstein (Butler) at 3 PM on Friday
Piekarsky/Brodney vs. Nardelli/Villa (Wichita State) at 3 PM on Friday
Assistant coach Mike Murray weighed in on what this tournament can do for the young Hoosiers and lone veteran.
"I just want to see how the guys compete, handle the pressure that comes along with their first college match and ultimately, we are taking a lot of new guys just getting started," Murray said.
"It's really just an opportunity for them to go and enjoy it, see where their level is at and a learning experience to build off going into the fall," Murray added. "For senior Stefan Lugonjic, it's an opportunity for him to start to finish his senior year on a high note."
