BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Two former Indiana greats will come back to the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse to compete in the 2017 IU Relays. Derek Drouin, the 2016 Olympic Gold Medalist in the high jump, will compete in the heptathlon. Drouin was the first field athlete with Indiana University ties to win Olympic Gold in 60 years. The Canadian superstar holds two indoor school records, the high jump (2.35m) and the heptathlon (5,817 points). Drouin won the Bowerman following his 2013 campaign. Drouin earned All-America distinctions in the high jump seven times, won seven Big Ten Championships, was a five-time NCAA champion, honored as Big Ten Athlete of the Year five times, three-time Athlete of the Big Ten Championships and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year.
Olu Olamigoke, a 2016 Olympian in the triple jump for Team Nigeria, will also be in competition. Olu ranks ninth all-time in the triple jump at Indiana with a jump of 15.82m. While at Indiana, Olu was honored as an All-American twice, named Academic All-Big Ten twice and earned Big Ten Athlete of the week once.
"It is always great to have our all-time great track and field athletes come back to campus," said head coach Ron Helmer. "But this weekend will be especially exciting as these two recent Olympians compete on the track they once called home."
For Drouin, the heptathlon schedule will be as follows:
Event one – 60m Dash starting on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
Event two – Long Jump starting on Friday at 5:35 p.m.
Event three – Shot Put starting on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
