BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Following a 2-0 start in dual match play, the Indiana women's tennis team is back at it as they will host a doubleheader on Sunday January 29. The Hoosiers will match up with Washington State at 9:30 a.m. and Cincinnati at 2:30 p.m.
Washington State comes in with a 4-0 record. The Cougars will play Purdue on Friday before making the short drive to Bloomington. Cincinnati is 1-0 on the season as the Bearcats opened the season last weekend with a 7-0 win over IUPUI. Cincinnati plays at Miami (Oh) on Saturday before the match against Indiana.
Last weekend at the IU Tennis Center the Hoosiers picked up a pair of 7-0 victories, over Western Michigan and Butler.
Sophomore Madison Appel went 4-0 in singles and doubles combined at the top spot for Indiana and earned Big Ten Athlete of the Week earlier this week.
Appel and senior Kim Schmider have teamed up to go 18-2 in doubles on the year, which includes their tournament play in the fall.
IU head coach Ramiro Azcui said he hopes the victories last weekend will provide confidence to the team going into this weekend.
"I hope we can take the momentum from our wins last week and use that moving forward," Azcui said. "I think we will find out a lot about our team that week with quality opponents coming into town. We need to control our emotions and have good energy and I believe we will have success."
