Hoosiers Close Out the IU Relays in Record Breaking Fashion

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana track and field team closed out the month of January at the IU Relays. The weekend was highlighted by performances from two former IU and Olympic athletes, Derek Drouin and Olu Olamigoke.
Behind strong enthusiasm from his teammates, Andrew Miller broke the school record in the weight throw. In the last event of the weekend, Miller heaved the weight 21.06m (69-1.25) to establish the new record. He currently sits 11th in the NCAA and third in the Big Ten conference. Willie Morrison finished third in the event with a mark of 18.90m (62-0.25), that is the ninth best throw in school history.
Chase Pacheco edged out former Hoosier and Olympic Gold Medalist, Derek Drouin, in the heptathlon. Pacheco won the event with a score of 5,201 points, the sixth highest point total in school history and the 18th best time in the NCAA. Drouin was second with a scored of 5,125 points. Andrew Huber took third in the event with a score of 5,090 points.
Megan Grabowski dusted the competition in the finals of the 60m dash. Her career best time of 7.51 is good for the fifth fastest time in school history. Brittany Thomas finished third with a time of 7.71. On the men's side, Tyler Bellaire finished fifth in the finals of the 60m dash with a time of 6.95. In the finals of the men's 60m hurdles, Adrian Mable took silver with a time of 8.13.
Eric Bethea finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 15.46m (50-8.75). The winner of the event was IU alum and 2016 Olympic participant, Olu Olamigoke. Olu won with a leap of 15.98m (52-5.25).
Olivia Hippensteel ran the 10th fastest 800m run in school history on her way to the event win. Her time of 2:08.93 was also enough to put her inside of the top 20 nationally. Mallory Mulzer finished second in the event with a time of 2:11.91. Jordan Huntoon won the 800m run on the men's side with a time of 1:50.20.
Corinne Cominator stormed back in the final 100m to edge out teammate Maggie Allen in the mile run. Cominator's time of 4:49.35 is a career best and ranks inside the top 50 nationally. Allen shaved nearly five second off of her career best with a time of 4:49.37, also in the top 50 nationally. In the men's mile run, Bryce Millar finished second with a time of 4:03.
Paul Galas took third in the high jump, followed by teammate Steven Leonard, who finished fourth. In her first meet of the 2016-17 season, Nakel McClinton finished fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 19.19m (62-11.5).
Both the men's and women's 4x400m relay teams were victorious. The men's team consisting of Zach Reitzug, Markevious Roach, Caleb Ojennes and Daniel Kuhn had a winning time of 3:11.57. Taylor Williams, Mackenzie Bollinger, Riley Egbula and Kendell Wiles won with a season best time of 3:43.96.
The Indiana track and field team will be back in action next weekend. For the first time this season, the Hoosiers will be away from Gladstein Fieldhouse. IU will travel to Notre Dame for the Meyo Invitational.
