Postgame Quotes - Indiana at Northwestern

Indiana head coach Tom Crean
On the offensive struggles after getting out to a 10-1 lead early in the game:
"We weren't making enough shots. We were getting it inside, but we weren't getting it inside as much as we could have because we did later on. There were shots to be made. It happens inside of the game. The key was that we let them get some runouts and get some confidence.
"We probably needed to recognize even earlier, some of the decisions with the ball would have saved us some turnovers. Really, the story of the story of the game for us in the first half was the difference in the turnovers and their points off our turnovers. And the fact that we got foulded and left six or seven points on the free throw line. I'm more reflective of that right now.
"When you get good shots, there's not a lot of argument there. And when we do get a foul called, we have to reward ourselves and go in there and knock our free throws down."
On the adjustments to try to make a run in the second half:
"When we switched defenses in the second half and the game was still in the balance, we committed a foul late in the clock and we gave up two offensive rebounds. As a coach, I'm thinking about those things because those were missed opportunities because we didn't have the chance to come back down – we were really getting anything we wanted inside."
On continuing to improve while battling injuries:
"We just have to keep looking at it as we have to keep getting better. I am highly confident. We made a couple adjustments in this game that we had to make. But we just have to keep improving, we really do. We can't do anything about what we don't have or who we don't have. We started the year without Collin Hartman and it is continuing on right now. It's part of it.
"I don't have any worries about (continuing to improve), but we do know that we have to continue to improve. And we have to lead a lot of young guys that are trying to work their way into some really crucial roles. But as far as having confidence in getting better, I'm highly confident."
Indiana players Thomas Bryant and Robert Johnson
On what led to the hot start:
BRYANT: "We just wanted to flow into our offense. We worked on it in practice and paid attention to it before the game and I think that's what helped us get out to the early lead."
On not shooting the usual percentage from the field:
BRYANT: "I think all we did was miss shots. I think it is more on us, offensively, than them defensively, although they did play a great game. I think it falls on us, just shooting the ball like we usually do and trying to keep our confidence high."
On how to improve with fewer turnovers offensively:
JOHNSON: "I think it just comes down to making the simple plays. Whenever we get away from making the simple plays and try to make the home run plays, it seems like the other team always capitalizes off of it. Going forward, that will be something that we focus on."
