No. 11/13 Wisconsin Defeats No. 25 Indiana, 75-68

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The No. 25-ranked Indiana Hoosiers (10-5, 0-2 Big Ten) fell to the No. 11/13 Wisconsin Badgers (13-2, 2-0 Big Ten), 75-68, on Tuesday night at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.
Juwan Morgan scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Hoosiers, while De'Ron Davis had 12 points and two boards. Robert Johnson also scored 12 for IU, pulling down three rebounds.
OG Anunoby totaled nine points on 4-of-4 shooting to go with six boards, while James Blackmon Jr. had 10 points with two assists.
The Badgers came out on fire, hitting their first five shots to take a 13-0 lead over the Hoosiers just three minutes in to the game. IU responded just minutes later, going on a 10-0 run to cut the Wisconsin lead to just four points, 16-12, at the 13:10 mark.
Later in the half, the resilient Hoosiers had another great stretch, out-scoring the Badgers 11-2 to take a lead, 35-34, on a Blackmon, Jr. 3-pointer with 2:05 remaining in the half.
After trailing by as many as 14 points, Indiana went in to the half time break down just one, 38-37. Blackmon, Jr. led the Hoosiers with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting, while Newkirk had four points, five rebounds and four assists in the first half. Anunoby had four points and five boards in the first stanza.
In the second half, the Badgers extended their advantage early, but IU came right back, going on a 9-0 run to take a 58-56 lead on a Johnson lay-up with 14:04 remaining in the game.
The lead would change 11 times over the next eight minutes in a tightly-fought contest, but the Badgers to make a final run over the closing minutes to earn the victory, 75-68.
For Indiana, Newkirk finished with four points, six rebounds and four assists, while Thomas Bryant scored six points and had three boards.
The No. 25 Indiana Hoosiers will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 7 when the team host Big Ten rival Illinois at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. ET. and will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
