BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana Softball head coach Michelle Gardner announced on Friday that Emily Goodin graduated from high school in December, enrolled at Indiana and will join the team this season.
Goodin, a right-handed pitcher from Evansville, Ind., signed her National Letter of Intent in November.
"It's new territory for me to bring someone in mid-year that's a true senior in high school," said Gardner. "Emily is very competitive and mature beyond her years, that's why I feel confident bringing her in. She'll have some bumps just like everybody else, but she's talented and at this point we have an opportunity to do something special. I look forward to her coming in and being able to contribute."
A two-time Evansville Courier and Press All-Metro Player of the Year selection, Goodin led Evansville Mater Dei to its first State Championship in school history last year, tossing 165 innings with a 0.72 ERA. Her 306 strikeouts in 2016 led the state of Indiana and she finished the year with three no-hitters, as well as a perfect game. Goodin was named a 2016 Max Preps Second Team All-American for Small High Schools and has twice been awarded All-State and All-Conference honors.
Goodin most recently played travelball for Indiana Dreams, leading the team to a 2016 appearance at PGF Premier Nationals.
The Hoosiers kick off the 2017 campaign on Feb. 10 as Indiana travels to Tempe, Ariz. for the annual Kajikawa Classic.
