For IU’s Saturday Homecoming Game Use Alternate Routes, Arrive Early, and Pre-Plan Parking
10/12/2017 6:10:00 PM | General
Bloomington, Indiana – It will be a beautiful, sun-soaked Bloomington day for this Saturday's IU Homecoming game against the Michigan Wolverines, kicking off at Noon ET. Due to lane restrictions on State Road 37 and an expected large crowd, IU fans are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes and get to Memorial Stadium early to enjoy a great game and gameday atmosphere. IU Athletics also advises that while parking passes are sold out for its lots around the stadium, many convenient parking options remain including a large shuttle lot at the north intersection of N. Curry Pike and State Road 46, parking areas north of the bypass, as well as parking garages on campus.
Tickets are still available online or by calling 1-812-855-4006 or 1-866-IUSPORTS. The game will also be televised by ABC.
Suggested Alternate Routes
IU Athletics has worked with INDOT to identify routes to Bloomington as alternatives to State Road 37 for persons coming to the games from Indianapolis and points north (click to view routes). Construction on State Road 37 can significantly increase the time it takes to travel from Indianapolis. On a good day, it takes approximately one hour to drive from 465 and 37 to Memorial Stadium. While leaving early can substantially mitigate delays, INDOT recommends that fans consider the following alternate routes. Throughout the season, IU Athletics staff members will drive these routes to get up-to-date traffic information communicated to fans.
• State Highway 67 south to Spencer, then State Highway 46 east into Bloomington (estimated travel time for this route 1 hour and 20 minutes from Indianapolis)
• I-65 south toward Columbus to State Highway 46 west into Bloomington (even with construction on I-65 from mile markers 104-107 both directions, estimated travel time for this route 1 hour and 20 minutes from Indianapolis)
• I-70 west towards 231-south and then State Highway 46 east into Bloomington (estimated travel time 1 hour and 25 minutes from Indianapolis)
#GetHereEarly!
In addition to advising fans to get into the stadium early in light of the new security measures, fans are also encouraged to get to Bloomington early in light of traffic challenges. Parking lots will be opened a minimum of five hours prior to kickoff time for each home contest. For exact times of the opening of lots each week, follow @IUHoosiers on Twitter. Early arriving fans are encouraged to enjoy live entertainment and food in the Hoosier Village, tailgate, tour Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall or take advantage of the wide variety of restaurant and bar options in Bloomington before kickoff.
Pre-Plan Parking
There is a shuttle lot parking area at the north intersection of N.Curry Pike and State Road 46 (GPS Address - 2601 Hunter Valley Rd., Bloomington, IN 47404). The lot is open to RV's on Friday evening and open to all vehicles on Saturday at 7 a.m. Parking is $50 for RV's and $20 for cars. Shuttle service to the stadium will begin at 9 a.m. and each bus will have a police escort to assist with traffic issues. The service will bring fans back to their vehicles beginning in the 4th quarter and continuing until 90 minutes after the conclusion of the game. Pay lots north of the bypass are also available while spaces last.
Along with the shuttle lot, there are three parking garages on campus that are available to the public on football game days. Those lots include:
• Fee Lane Garage near Kelley School of Business
• Poplars Garage, entrance on 6th Street between Grant and Dunn Streets
• Henderson Garage, entrances from Indiana Avenue and/or S. Fess Avenue between 3rd Street and Atwater Avenue
Waze App Implementation
Waze, a community based traffic and navigation app, is used to communicate traffic patterns in real time upon arrival and departure to and from Bloomington on game day. The app automatically updates to the football pre and postgame traffic pattern as they go into effect. Waze also houses links to allow patrons to find their specific parking lot and route them to the best way of getting there in real time.
