Hoosiers Have Success at Bobby Bayliss Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Indiana men's team played in its second fall tournament of the season, bringing six to the Bobby Bayliss Invitational at Notre Dame.
FRIDAY
Sophomore Payam Ahmadi began the first day of the invite with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Michigan State's Ivan Rakic. Freshman Brandon Lam got his first win as a Hoosiers when he beat Brandon Lancaster of Louisville, 6-2, 6-1.
Bloomington native William Piekarsky notched the third Hoosiers singles win of the day with a 6-3, 7-6 win.
In doubles, the pair of freshman Andrew Redding and Piekarsky defeated a duo from Marquette, 6-1.
Finishing off the first day, junior Afonso Salgado and Ahmadi won a doubles match 6-3 over Billy Heckman and Kennosuke Nouchi of Western Michigan.
SATURDAY
In the morning session of the invite, IU grabbed singles wins from sophomore Zac Brodney, Salgado, Redding, Ahamdi, and Lam.
In their second matches of the day, Brodney and Redding won their matches, both in straight sets.
SUNDAY
On the final day of the tournament, Hoosiers got two singles wins and a doubles victory.
Piekarsky and Redding defeated Rakic and Wong. Ahmadi and Piekarsky also picked up singles wins for the Hoosiers.
Up next the Hoosiers will compete at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, which start Oct. 19 in Knoxville, Tenn.
