No. 1 Indiana Advances to Big Ten Title Match with 4-0 Win

WESTFIELD, Ind. – The No. 1-ranked Indiana University men's soccer team dominated Ohio State, 4-0, in the semifinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday afternoon at Grand Park in Westfield, IN.
With the victory, Indiana remains unbeaten, improving to 15-0-4 on the season. Ohio State's year comes to an end with a record of 8-10-1. Indiana will face No. 24 Wisconsin on Sunday, Nov. 12 in the Big Ten Tournament championship at Grand Park.
Scoring goals for the Hoosiers on Friday were Cory Thomas, Andrew Gutman, Francesco Moore and Austin Panchot. Trevor Swartz had a pair of assists on the day, while Gutman, Rece Buckmaster and Justin Rennicks also recorded assists for IU.
Freshman goalkeeper Trey Muse and the Hoosier defense posted the team's NCAA-leading 15th shutout of the year. Muse had three saves on the afternoon. The 15 blank sheets are the most in a season for IU since 2001 (16).
The Hoosier scoring started in the 17th minute, when Thomas buried a cross in from the left side from inside the six-yard box. The redshirt junior's sixth goal of the season gave IU a 1-0 lead at halftime.
The Indiana offense came out of half on fire, scoring three times in the final 45 minutes.
Gutman buried a long-range effort from 27-yards out in the 47th minute, notching his sixth score of the season. Just 15 minutes later, Moore struck a beautiful goal off a corner kick on the full volley, giving IU a 3-0 lead in the 62nd minute with his second goal of the year.
Panchot rounded out the scoring for the Hoosiers in the 71st minute, connecting on a header from six-yards out. Panchot's third goal of the season gave IU the team's winning margin of 4-0.
For the match, Indiana out-shot the Buckeyes, 17-6, with IU getting nine shots on-goal to three. Corner kicks were 7-1 in favor of the Hoosiers.
The four-goal effort from the Hoosiers on Friday marked the fifth match this season IU has scored four or more goals in a match. On the season, IU has out-scored its opponents, 42-4.
