Indiana Set To Host The Hoosier Open

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana Hoosiers track and field team host the Hoosier Open on Friday afternoon at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse. The meet is scheduled to start at 3:45 p.m. EST. There are a total of 18 teams competing, only one other team from the Big Ten, Purdue University.
Ron Helmer enters his 11th season as the head coach of the men's and women's track and field team. The Hoosier men are coming off of winning the 2016-17 Indoor Big Ten Championships. We have a strong return of athletes from last season on both the men's and women's teams.

Highlights from the Big Ten Indoor Championships for the men:
- Senior Daniel Kuhn won the 600m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and holds the Big Ten record with the time of 1:15.23. He also placed sixth overall in the 800m at the NCAA Championships last year as well as earning the honors of DMR All-American.
- Redshirt sophomore Kyle Mau was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year for the 2016-17 indoor season. He placed third overall in the mile at Big Ten Indoor Championships with the time of 4:03.39 and earned the honors of DMR All-American.
- Redshirt junior Joe Murphy was the runner-up in the mile at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the time of 4:02.70. He also earned the honors of DMR All-American.
- Junior Treyton Harris was the Big Ten Field Athlete of Championship last year. At the Big Ten Indoor Championships he was the long jump champion with 7.71m (25'3.5'' feet) and high jump runner-up with 2.17m (7'1.5" feet).
- Junior Eric Bethea was the Big Ten champion in the triple jump at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the mark of 15.95m (52'4" feet), which earned him All-American honors and qualified him for the NCAA Indoor Championships.
- Junior Willie Morrison was the Big Ten champion in the shot put at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the mark of 19.79m (64'11.25" feet). He qualified for NCAA Indoor Championships where he placed tenth overall in the shot put.
- Senior Paul Galas placed third overall in the high jump at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the mark of 2.17m (7'1.5" feet).

- Ben Veatch, redshirt freshman – 5K
- Jyles Etienne – high jump
- Zubin Muncherji – 500m
- Isaiah Ware, Indiana State 400 Champion – 300m
Highlights from the Big Ten Indoor Championships for the women:
- Redshirt junior, Katherine Receveur was the Big Ten Champion in the 5K at the Big Ten Indoor Championships and holds the Big Ten 5K record with the time of 15:28.89. She finished sixth overall at the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 300m and earned the honors of DMR All-American.
- Senior Brenna Calder was the runner-up in the mile at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the time of 4:42.33. She also earned the honors of DMR All-American.
- Senior Kendell Wiles finished third overall in the 600m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships with the time of 1:28.81.

- Anna Watson, New Balance National Champion – Pole vault
- Zykeria Williams – 60 hurdles
- Natalie Price, top 10 400 recruit – 60m and 500m
- Maddie Pollard, top 5 in 3 events at New Balance Nationals – shot put and weight throw
- Grace Walther, 7th at USA Junior – 1000m
