PEORIA, Ariz. – Senior Ana Sanjuan posted her first top 10 finish of the season as she led Indiana Women's Golf with a sixth-place finish at the Westbrook Invitational on Monday afternoon.
"It was really great to get back out on the course to kick off our spring season at the always competitive Westbrook Invitational," IU head coach Clint Wallman said. "We definitely have some improvements to make going forward, but Ana Sanjuan did a really outstanding job of leading us today and she is primed for a really good senior season going forward."
The Aviles, Spain native shot even in the final round of the opening tournament of the spring to earn her the second-highest finish of her career with a 214 (2-under). It also marked the fourth finish in the top 10 for the senior who hit three birdies in Monday's final round. Sanjuan opened play on the day with an even first nine holes before opening up the back nine with a birdie. She also closed the day with a pair of birdies on the final two holes as she wrapped up the sixth-place finish.
Freshman Elisa Pierre added a 9-over finish (225) to finish in 35th while sophomore Erin Harper, who missed much of the fall season, entered a 76 in the final round to finish 56th overall. Senior Theresa-Ann Jedra turned in a three-round score of 230 to finish in 59th and junior Pear Siriko added a 235 to finish the opening spring tournament in 72nd.
Individually, freshman Emma Fisher posted her biggest improvement, shooting 2-over par (74) to combine for a 15-stroke improvement from the fall season with a 233 to finish in 68th. As a team, the Hoosiers finished 13th overall in the field with a three-round total of 898.
The Hoosiers are next back in action on March 17-19 in the Clover Cup in Meza, Ariz. hosted by Notre Dame.
