Hoosiers Travel To Georgia Tech For NIT Opener

BLOOMINGTON, Indiana - The Indiana men's basketball team (18-15) will travel to Atlanta for a late Tuesday night matchup against Georgia Tech (17-15) in the opener of the National Invitation Tournament. Tip off will be at 9 p.m. on ESPN. The Hoosiers are the No. 3 seed in the Syracuse Quadrant, while Georgia Tech is the No. 6 seed. The winner will face either No. 2 Georgia or No. 7 Belmont in the second round. Other teams in the quadrant include No. 1 Syracuse, No. 4 Monmouth, No. 5 Ole Miss and No. 8 UNC Greensboro.
The second round can be played March 16 thru 20, the quarterfinals are March 21 and 22, and the semifinals and finals in New York are March 28-30.
Indiana will make its fifth appearance in the National Invitation Tournament. IU also appeared in 1972, 1979, 1985 and 2005. The Hoosiers won the event in 1979 and finished runner-up in 1985.
IU is not hosting the opening round due to Spring Break, but will host anytime on March 20, 21 and 22 should they advance.
