No. 15 Hoosiers Come Up Short in 11-5 Loss at No. 8 Hawaii

MANOA, Hawaii – The No. 15 Indiana water polo team fell behind 7-1 after two quarters and could not recover as they lost 11-5 against No. 8 Hawaii at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex on Saturday night.
The Hoosiers (13-6), got a goal from Kelly Matthews at the 2:40 mark to open the game, but trailed 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
After the goal from Matthews in the first quarter, Hawaii scored the next six goals of the game to take a 7-1 lead. It was Matthews who scored again for the Hoosiers as Indiana netted back-to-back goals in the third period to get within 7-3.
Hawaii closed the third quarter with a goal with five seconds left to take an 8-3 lead into the fourth quarter.
Hawaii opened the fourth quarter with two goals, but the Hoosiers responded as Sarah Myers put one in at the 5:55 mark of the fourth quarter, which made the score 10-4. Each team added one additional goal to close out the game.
Junior goalkeeper Jessica Gaudreault made seven saves for the Hoosiers.
