Hoosiers Continue Competition at the NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 4-ranked Indiana University men' swimming and diving team had another successful prelim session at the 2017 NCAA Championships on Friday morning at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.
100 Butterfly
Vini Lanza posted the second-fastest 100 butterfly in school history in the prelims on Friday morning, qualifying eighth overall to earn a spot in the Championship Final with a time of 45.47. Lanza, just a sophomore, owns the top-10 times all-time in IU history in the event.
200 Freestyle
Blake Pieroni continued his great meet, cruising to the No. 3 seed for Friday night's Championship Final with a smooth, 1:32.42 in the prelims. Pieroni's time is the fifth-fastest in school history.
Mohamed Samy qualified 15th overall and earned a place in the Consolation Final, tying his personal-best time with a mark of 1:33.55. Marwan Elkamash placed 17th overall with a time of 1:33.69.
100 Breaststroke
Ian Finnerty just missed qualifying for the Consolation Final, placing 17th overall with a time of 52.43.
200 Medley Relay
In the 200 medley relay, IU's team of Bob Glover, Finnerty, Lanza and Ali Khalafalla qualified 13th overall to secure a bid to the Consolation Final with a time of 1:24.57.
3-Meter Dive
For the second-straight day, both James Connor and Michael Hixon qualified for a Championship Final, this time in the 3-meter dive. Connor qualified second overall with a total of 428.00, while Hixon qualified third with a score of 416.75.
Cody Coldren just missed on qualifying for the Consolation Final, finishing 18th with a score of 345.35.
The No. 4 Indiana Hoosiers will continue competition at the 2017 NCAA Championships on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. ET with the finals of the 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 200 medley relay and 3-meter dive.
