Dye, Hempt receive Scholars of Distinction honor
CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced the 2016 Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, in addition to the Scholars of Distinction selections. The Indiana Hoosiers earned 12 spots on this year's edition, tied with Northwestern and Ohio State for the third-highest total in the Big Ten.
Nine of Indiana's recipients – Nora Aucker, Kate Barber, Morgan Dye, Malia Fujisawa, Mollie Getzfread, Cameron Gibson, Elle Hempt, Katie Johnson, and Maddie Latino – return to the National Academic Squad after making the list last season. The freshman trio of Ciara Girouard, Andi Jackson, and Marley Tunnell receive their first NFHCA academic honors in their first season.
Additionally, Dye and Hempt were recognized as Scholars of Distinction for the second year in a row. Dye joins an exclusive group with her fourth career Scholar of Distinction selection, adding to an illustrious career of high academic honors.
Five Hoosiers join the group of 139 seniors who have made the National Academic squad in four different seasons. Barber, Dye, Getzfread, Hempt, and Johnson picked up the four-year distinction, tying Rutgers for the highest number of four-time honorees in the Big Ten.
The Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad includes all student-athletes with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or greater through the first semester of the 2016-17 academic year.
