Hoosiers Fall to South Carolina

FULLERTON, Calif. – Indiana Softball was shutout by South Carolina in Saturday's Judi Garman Classic, falling to the Gamecocks in six innings, 8-0.
The Hoosiers (6-11) were outhit by South Carolina, 14-4, in the loss. Kennedy Clark led the way for the Gamecocks with a 3-for-4 outing and pair of RBI while Krystan White brought in a trio of runs.
The Gamecocks (15-3) got on the board in the first on a trio of singles, capped by an RBI single by Clark up the middle to make it 1-0.
Indiana redshirt sophomore pitcher Emily Kirk worked around a hit batter in the second to keep the game at 1-0. Kirk made the second start of the season in the circle, but picked up the loss.
A pair of base knocks in the third would extend the South Carolina lead to 3-0 before adding on another in fourth.
South Carolina added two more in the fifth on a single and RBI fielder's choice, as well as pair of runs in the sixth on a double by White to end the game in a run-rule.
Four different Hoosiers registered a hit in the contest, including seniors CaraMia Tsirigos and Erin Lehman, junior Rachel O'Malley and freshman Gabbi Jenkins. Jenkins has picked up a hit in each of Indiana's three games in the Judi Garman Classic.
Indiana returns to the field on Sunday as the Hoosiers take on Long Beach State and No. 23 California. Live stats and a radio broadcast will be available on IUHoosiers.com
