Hoosiers Receive NFCHA National Academic Team Award

CHANDLER, Ariz. – The National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) announced Wednesday the recipients of the Zag Field Hockey / NFHCA Division I National Academic Team awards. Indiana University's field hockey squad was one of 76 teams named to the honor.
The award recognizes an all-encompassing academic pursuit by field hockey programs around the nation. Teams who have a team GPA of 3.0 or above receive the honor.
The Hoosiers have received academic team recognition 14 times, winning the award in every season since the first honors were given in 2003. Twice, Indiana placed in the top-five nationally, tying Yale for third-place in 2008 (3.46) and tying American University for second-place in 2007 (3.51).
The NFHCA will reveal their selections to the 2016 Division I Academic Squad along with their scholars of distinction (3.90 GPA or higher) next week on Wednesday, March 15.
Last year, 12 Hoosiers landed on the award sheet: Nora Aucker, Kate Barber, Morgan Dye, Malia Fujisawa, Mollie Getzfread, Elle Hempt, Katie Johnson, Maddie Latino, Karen Lorite, Taylor Swope, Nicole Volgraf, and Claire Woods. Dye and Hempt received scholars of distinction recognition.
