Hoosiers Finish Weekend With 16-11 Win Over GWU

Williams caps stellar road trip with four goals
ONEONTA, N.Y. – After splitting yesterday's results at Hartwick College, the Indiana water polo team returned to the pool on Sunday morning with a chance to even their record in the CWPA. The No. 15 Hoosiers (15-8, 2-2) made use of a potent offense to put away George Washington, 16-11, ending the weekend with back-to-back wins.
This result included another four-goal performance from freshman Mollie Williams, who matched the career high goal total she set on Saturday evening against Bucknell. Kelly Matthews tied Williams with four in the scoring ledger, her highest output since Indiana's game at San Diego State.
Sarah Myers added another hat trick to her stat-stuffing weekend while raking in a team-leading four assists and three steals. Elsewhere on defense, Williams, Matthews, and Jennifer Beadle finished the game with two steals each.

Williams and Myers paced Indiana's opening effort, each scoring a pair of goals in the first period. Beadle scored with over a minute left to give the Hoosiers a four-goal lead, but the Colonials pushed back with a last-minute goal.
George Washington battled in the second period, shaving Indiana's lead to one by the end of the first half. Two quick George Washington goals prompted a three-score run from Indiana, all in 2:16 of game clock. The Colonials closed the period on a three-goal scoring run, nearly leveling the skirmish at 8-7.
Matthews and a stingy defense turned the tide in the third period. Sarah Young opened scoring in the first minute of the half and the Hoosiers persisted on the defensive end, forcing empty possessions for the Colonials. Matthews rewarded the fortitude with back-to-back goals to end the third, completing her hat trick.
The Hoosiers faced another valiant George Washington effort in the final eight minutes, but Indiana's offense continued to up the differential. Both Williams and Matthews scored their fourth goals in the first two minutes of the period. Karrie Kozokar entered the score sheet for the second time this weekend, and Myers completed her hat trick on a power play.
