Indiana posts third-highest team GPA in conference
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. – The Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) and the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced last week their selections to their respective academic honor rolls for the 2016-17 academic year. With the qualifications being identical for both lists, the governing bodies recognized nine Indiana student-athletes for their academic achievement.
Junior Sarah Myers and freshman Emily Powell led the haul, collecting the tier-topping Outstanding honors from both the CWPA and ACWPC. Myers becomes a three-time outstanding honoree, receiving the distinction every year of her career to date. Powell posted the highest marks of four Indiana newcomers selected to this year's all-academic teams.
Five Hoosiers followed with Superior honors, including three-time recipients Sarah Young and Emily Lowe. Karrie Kozokar collected her second set of Superior-level awards, while Joelle Nacouzi and Riley Beemer grabbed honors in their first season at Indiana University.
In the Excellent honors tier, Mackenzie Rosenthal earned her second set of honors in as many seasons, adding to her first Academic All-Big Ten award earlier this spring. Mollie Williams, one of IU's two ACWPC All-America honorable mentions, also joined Indiana's list of academic honorees.
As a team the Hoosiers maintained an excellent team grade-point average of 3.35, one of seven schools above the 3.25 GPA mark in the entirety of the CWPA's member institution. That mark ranked third in their competitive conference, behind Harvard University (3.52) and Brown University (3.41).
